Nestled along the shores of North Carolina’s Outer Banks, Island Bookstore has been a beloved literary haven for locals and visitors alike for over 29 years. What began as a small, independent shop has grown into a cherished destination for book lovers, with three locations in the Historic Corolla Village, Scarborough Faire Shops in Duck, and Kitty Hawk at Mile Post 4.5. Our passion for stories and community remains at the heart of everything we do.

Our Duck store is our Flag-ship store featuring over 30,000 titles in-stock. We carry many books on the Outer Banks and a full quarter of our store is dedicated to thoughtfully curated children’s books, designed to captivate young readers and foster a lifelong love of books.

During the summer, we host author signings across various genres, offering readers unique opportunities to connect with writers and discover new treasures—perfect for beach reading or sharing with book clubs. If you don’t see the title you’re looking for, we’re happy to request it from another store or order it, with most books arriving within 3-5 days. Aside from books, we carry greeting cards, puzzles and games for all ages, and book-themed t’s, totes, and gifts. We will ship books anywhere, and Indie Bestseller Hardcover Top Ten books (adult fiction/nonfiction) are 20% off everyday.
